Complete Your Qualifying Education
- 130 Hours of Qualifying Real Estate Inspection Courses as Follows
- 10 hours foundations
- 8 hours framing
- 10 hours building enclosures
- 10 hours roofing
- 8 hours plumbing systems
- 10 hours electrical systems
- 10 hours HVAC
- 8 hours appliances
- 4 hours Texas Standards of Practice
- 12 hours Texas Standard Report Form Report Writing
- 8 hours Texas Legal/Ethics
- 4 hours Texas Standards of Practice Review
- 4 Hours Texas Legal Ethics
- 24 hours in any qualifying inspection subject
Meet the Experience and Additional Education Requirements
- The chart below shows three options for an applicant to satisfy the experience and additional education requirements. Applicants for a professional inspector license must select one option and satisfy all requriemtns for that option.

Have at least 12 months of active experience as a licensed real estate inspector during the 24-month period preceding the application date. | Have 3 years of experience as an active practicing licensed or registered architect, professional engineer, or engineer-in-training. A license history from the regulator agency that issued the license or registration must be submitted. | Complete an additional 200 hours of qualifying inspection courses as follows:

Have performed at least 175 real estate inspections under indirect supervision. | Complete an additional 16 classroom hours of qualifying inspection courses as follows:

Complete 40 hours of fieldwork AND 24 hours of approved experience coursework OR Complete 16 hours of fieldwork AND 60 hours of approved experience coursework OR Have 5 years of personal experience in a field directly related to home inspection and provide two affidavits from persons who have personal knowledge of your experience. |
Insurance Requirements
Upon passing the exam you must provide proof of liability insurance or any other insurance that provides coverage for violations of Subchapter 6 of Chapter 1102, Texas Occupations Code ($100,000 per occurrence) before an active license will be issued.
